5/7/13 Cheese Factory & Beach Trip

During the night Bryan came and woke me asking for help with Josiah. Every time he gave him his bottle he would suck once or twice and cry. The nipple wasn't clogged or anything, Josiah was just upset, so I tried nursing him and he fussed at first until the milk came fast and then he was content. We think he was upset by the flow rate being too slow. I wondered if that would happen because of how aggressive he gets nursing when he is really hungry and doesn't settle until the milk comes quickly. I guess it's time to go though the stash of bottles and nipples again and find something faster that doesn't drown him or fill him with air.

Josiah slept most of the way to Tillamook. The Wrights walked around the upstairs of the factory while I stayed in the truck and nursed Josiah. We looked around the gift shop and tasted cheese when I came in.

mmmm aged smoked white cheddar
Josiah wanted a lolly pop ;0
We walked across the street to the Old Oregon Smoke house. It's not the prettiest on the outside, but the Chowder is fantastic! Laura said we should go. She said that making clam chowder with smoked clams makes it amazing. She was right!
not where you'd expect to find amazing chowder... but it is.
mmmm creamy smoky clam chowder
We went to the Tillamook Country Smoker outlet, and bought a few pounds of jerky and some pepperoni sticks to snack on.

We Relaxed at the Sims cabin for a little while waiting for low tide and to take a walk on the beach.

Josiah actually cuddled with me :)
We all walked on the beach for a little while. It looked like a typical day on the Oregon beach which we were pretty proud of. We don't want to give false impressions of what the beach is like here. Sure it might be sunny and amazing most days right now, but this is unusual, so we got to show them what it usually looks like.

I had asked Stu before we left, where to buy the amazing crab I remember from the 4th of July trips to the beach. He said to walk to the jetty and instead of walking toward the ocean, walk the other way. We did, and discovered that with all the drift wood thrown up on the rocks it was rough going, so Bob and Edwina went back to the cabin while Bryan and I walked up the jetty to buy crab for dinner.
This is what we found at the end of the jetty.
Took a picture from the road so I know what to look for in case I want to drive there some day.
friendly cat that wanted petting while we waited for our crab to cook.
fun outdoor chairs we sat on by a smoldering fire while we waited
Dinner!
